Cancer Care Registry Closure Report Summary and Learning

The Cancer Care Registry Closure Report summarises the development, implementation, and early closure of the Cancer Care Registry pilot in North Central London (NCL). The registry was designed to support personalised cancer care in primary care through the use of population health management (PHM) tools.

Co-produced with clinicians, digital teams, and academic partners, the registry was successfully built and released in early 2023. However, uptake across practices remained limited, prompting the design of a service evaluation to understand barriers to adoption and potential impact on quality of care. Before this evaluation could commence, the registry was decommissioned due to wider system-level decisions.

This closure report captures the original aims, methodology, stakeholder engagement, and the lessons learned. It offers practical recommendations for those considering similar digital tools in cancer care and population health, including Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), national teams, digital providers, and academic partners.

The closure report and supplementary documents are shared to inform future efforts and ensure that learning from this work can shape more sustainable, impactful innovations in the NHS.
