North Central London Cancer Conference
19 November 2024, Emirates Stadium
09:30-16:30
Keynote speech by Amanda Pritchard, Chief Executive of NHS England.
The event will be an opportunity to:
- Hear about our North Central London 2028 vision for cancer
- Recognise and celebrate our collective achievements in improving cancer outcomes
- Help set the agenda for cancer care and treatment in NCL over the coming years
- Meet, collaborate with, and learn from other NCL cancer colleagues
Breakout sessions
In smaller groups we will explore issues which are highly relevant to the NCL cancer system. The input of a diverse group of stakeholders will help inform the work of the Cancer Alliance in the short to medium-term. These sessions will each run twice. On the registration form you will be asked to pick two sessions you would like to attend.
1. Surveil and Prevail: How can surveillance support the NHS to identify more cancers at an earlier stage?
In this interactive session, we will explore the potential opportunities and challenges of designing surveillance pathways, including understanding the impact on patients and identifying emerging innovations and technologies.
2. AI and Cancer: Hype versus Reality – Our capacity and capability to adopt AI in a timely and ethical way
While there is a lot of hype about AI, it has often failed to translate in a practical way within healthcare. In this session, we will explore some of the ethical considerations around AI. What skills do we need to make confident decisions around its adoption? Are our governance and approval mechanisms fit-for-purpose? Can one common approach across NCL ever be achieved?
3. Partners in Care – Building confidence and collaboration: How we support people living with and beyond cancer to have a leading role in optimising their own health and wellbeing
In this session, we will explore how people living with and beyond cancer can be supported to self-manage elements of their own care and shape the support they receive to live actively and well. We will identify barriers and solutions for people with cancer accessing support and generate ideas for measuring the impact of information signposting, referral and advice.
4. Turning the tide on cancer prevention: How can we ensure prevention is no longer the Cinderella of cancer programming?
Prevention is everyone’s business. How can we raise its profile and shift the balance of investment in cancer towards prevention? What will it take for government to prioritise longer-term health outcomes when we are missing our short-term cancer targets? And among all the stakeholders engaged in prevention, what is the role of the Cancer Alliance?
5. Unlocking better outcomes with data: how can we improve patient outcomes through better sharing of data and information?
In this session, colleagues from a system and provider perspective will lead discussions on the benefits of sharing data and information across organisations and how we might best enable this.
Poster submission
We invite you to submit posters about your or your team’s work in the areas of cancer awareness raising, diagnosis, treatment, follow up care, or patient and family/carer support in living with and beyond cancer. These will be displayed at the conference. Prizes will be presented to the three posters receiving the highest number of votes from attendees on the day.
Find more information here to register your interest in submitting a poster and see guidelines for poster development. Print-ready posters will need to be submitted by Monday 11 November.
